ANGIES HELPLINE  These can often be solved with just a telephone call, email or simple letter in French, but with the language barrier and different ways of doing things, these minor problems can quickly become huge hurdles. In our early days of making a new life here, we would certainly have found a friendly service such as the one we now offer, of huge benefit and reassurance, eliminating the need of continually relying on the goodwill of friends, neighbours or even partners! It also sometimes meant having to drive somewhere to be able to communicate more easily face to face, incurring time and expense. A quick telephone call is often all it takes to resolve some of the problems that can be encountered. As we know from first hand experience, when we first move to France we often lack local knowledge, confidence, and language skills to be able to communicate on the phone or fully understand letters and documents that we receive. Particularly difficult nowadays, are the automated reply systems used by many companies. You may be able to get by speaking some French, but when finally getting through to an actual person, after sometimes quite a hassle and long wait, being unable to understand the person at the other end of the phone! Let us give you a recent example - finding a bee's nest. As the local pompiers (fire brigade) are now most reluctant to come out for this kind of thing, a phone call was necessary to a local farmer, whose accent was, putting it politely, very colloquial! We were able to communicate on our client's behalf, so that the bees could be successfully collected rather than eradicated.
